Grandview Medical Center to dedicate beautification project; receive largest gift in hospital’s history

July 19, 2016

In celebration of its 90th anniversary, Grandview Medical Center is unveiling a monument sign and garden at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Great Miami Boulevard in Dayton. The beautification project is Grandview’s gift to the Grafton Hill and Five Oaks communities, creating an aesthetic entrance to the neighborhood.

Grandview Medical Center is celebrating the completion of the “Gateway” project with a dedication ceremony attended by Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, other elected officials, community leaders, and Kettering Health Network and hospital leadership on Thursday, July 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Great Miami Boulevard.

During the ceremony, Grandview leaders will receive a check for a major gift—the largest gift in Grandview’s 90-year history.

At the ceremony’s conclusion, network and hospital leaders, Mayor Whaley and other elected officials will plant the first flowers in the garden, symbolizing growth and prosperity in the area. People who attend the dedication and Grandview employees also will be invited to plant a flower.

Grandview was founded in 1926 by three doctors of osteopathic medicine in a home on West Second Street in downtown Dayton with a $25 operating table from World War I. Today the six-story, 296-bed hospital is situated in the historic Five Oaks neighborhood in Dayton on Grand Avenue. Grandview is one of the largest osteopathic community teaching hospitals in the U.S.
