Wellness / Health Fair Booths

Our community outreach team has wellness / health fair booths at events throughout the entire Dayton community.

These booths include:

Nearly one third of those with diabetes are unaware that they have the disease. An A1c test measures a person's average blood sugar from the last two months and can be used to identify prediabetes and diabetes. A Kettering Health Network registered nurse will use visual aids and literature to discuss the importance of having an A1c test.

This booth conveys the short- and long-term effects of alcohol consumption on health. Individuals can test their knowledge of alcohol consumption on physical performance and weight maintenance, as well as on facts vs. myths. The booth focuses on assessing coordination and judgment when drinking by using alcohol goggles.

The Department of Health and Human Services estimates that by 2020, half of all Americans over age 50 will have weakened bones because of unhealthy diets and lifestyles. The osteoporosis awareness booth uses visual aids to educate on the importance of bone health and tips for improvement through nutrition and exercise.

This booth focuses on age- and gender-specific screening guidelines. Tips on lowering risk are provided by a Kettering Health Network healthcare provider. Specific focus areas can be requested, such as breast, prostate, or colon cancer.

What if a sudden illness or injury left you unable to speak for yourself? Have you chosen someone to speak for you? Would they know your wishes about your care? Decide to Be Heard is an important community-wide initiative with a goal to help Miami Valley adults create advance directives to ensure their healthcare choices are followed if they become unable to speak for themselves. This advance directive consists of a Living Will and a Healthcare Power of Attorney. After visiting the booth, participants can call Community Outreach at (937) 558-3988 to schedule an appointment with a Decide to Be Heard trained facilitator who can guide them through the decision-making process and help them complete documents. There is no charge for this booth.

Using literature and visual aids, these booths provide information on modifiable diabetes risk factors and lifestyle tips for risk reduction.
