Opportunities
Our volunteer placements range from clerical support to direct patient contact. We offer a variety of opportunities for placement in patient care areas such as the Emergency Department and physical therapy, as well as many other positions throughout the hospital. We offer clerical support in the Gift Shop. Volunteers also brighten patients' days by bringing them flowers and mail from their friends and relatives, discharge patients from the hospital or wheel them from their rooms to appointments in the hospital, or inspect baby caps knitted by volunteers for new mothers. Whatever your skill and interest, we carefully assign you a task that matches your interests, experience and personality.
Fort Hamilton
Information Desk & Concierge Volunteers: Information Desk volunteers typically assist with questions, directions, and other queries. These volunteers must possess good customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly in a warm and compassionate manner.
Transport & Escort Volunteers: These volunteers help transport our patients and visitors around the hospital campus, safely and conveniently via wheelchair or issued golf cart.
Golf Cart Driver: In our newest volunteer role, these volunteers will be trained on a hospital-issued gold cart to patrol the parking lot and surrounding campus to assist patients and other customers to their destinations within the hospital. Volunteers must have a valid driver's license and pass a background check.
Gift Shop (Auxiliary) Volunteers: The Wishing Well Gift shop volunteers are part of the Auxiliary, a service and fund development group within Volunteer Services. Clerical Support Volunteers: These volunteers are placed in a variety of departments, including the Gebhart Center for Cancer Care, the Wound Care Center, and surgery waiting. Some responsibilities may include scanning, filing, collating, and coordinating mailings, among other things.
