Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

The CPE program accepts parish clergy, seminary students, and lay persons. Enrollment on an interdenominational basis is limited. Many seminaries offer academic graduate credit for accredited units of CPE. Below is our list of programs.

Intensive Summer Program
This 10-week class is offered June through August for one unit of CPE credit. Half of the time is spent in class and the other half doing clinical work. Tuition is $600.00.

Extended Internship
This 7 month program begins in mid-September and ends the following April. Class meets on Tuesdays (or other days to be determined), with eight hours of clinical work during the week, and three to four overnight on-calls a month. Tuition is $600.00.

Residency
This residency is a full-time study of pastoral care skills needed for parish or specialized ministries. It begins the second week of Aug and lasts for 10 months. A minimum of one unit of CPE is a prerequisite. Tuition is $600.00 with a salary of approximately $26,000 annually (prorated to 10½ months) with medical coverage and benefits as an employee of Kettering Medical Center.

Completed residencies earn three units of CPE credit which may apply toward certification as a hospital chaplain with The Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy, and the Association of Mental Health Clergy.
