Jeff had noticed that he was experiencing pain in his hip and lower back more and more. That's when he was referred to the experts at Sycamore Medical Center.
After receiving his x-rays, Jeff learned that he had no more cartilage in the joints that had been causing him pain. Jeff then talked to orthopedist Dr. Welker, MD at Sycamore Medical Center who told him he was ready for surgery. Jeff put his surgery off until after prime farm season and he said by the time he went in for surgery, he was at the point where he was dragging his leg around. Dr. Welker performed an anterior hip replacement, cutting Jeff's recovery time in half as opposed to regular hip replacement surgery. The night after Jeff's operation, he was able to get up and take three steps, leading him to say that his surgery was the best thing he's ever done.
"Truly incredible" are the words Jeff uses to describe his procedure. Jeff remembers his father suffering through a painful experience with polio and he says in regards to his care, "After my experience of being able to feel as good as I feel today and knowing what dad went through all his life, it's really hard to put to words."
