Greene Memorial Hospital receives "A" grade for patient safety

November 01, 2016

Greene Memorial Hospital is one of 844 hospitals to receive an “A” from The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog, ranking among the safest hospitals in the United States.

Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“This score from The Leapfrog Group is further testament to our initiatives to improve safety and quality,” says Rick Dodds, president of Greene Memorial Hospital. “The recognition is meaningful because it’s a validation on the quality of care for our community.”

Calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,600 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in April 2015, with about 31 percent receiving an “A” grade. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, and its website offers a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades.
