The Remarkable Heart to Heart Story

Now spanning twenty-eight years, the Heart to Heart Gala has focused regional attention on Kettering Medical Center's benchmark cardiovascular program and has raised over $7.5 million for advanced medical technology, patient-centered education and recovery, community cardiac and stroke screening and outreach, and advanced caregiver training.

All of this, and much more, has been made possible by the generous sponsors, donors, and patrons of Heart to Heart, as well as the thousands who have been part of the great concert audiences.

When combined with the monies given by visionary and generous donors during the capital campaigns for the Kettering Cardiovascular Institute and the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Heart Hospital, $35 million has been raised by the Kettering Medical Center Foundation for Kettering's nationally recognized heart program.

The first Heart to Heart featured Steve Allen, was sponsored personally by Virginia W. Kettering, and was chaired by Linda Lombard. A wide variety of entertainers have delighted audiences beginning in the Mandalay, then moving to the venerable Victoria Theater, and most recently in the magnificent Benjamin and Marian Schuster Center for the Performing Arts. Through the years, faithful community volunteers have assisted the Foundation staff in leading Heart to Heart.

Kettering Medical Center has consistently been included among America's top 100 hospitals, and its cardiovascular program among the nation's top 50. Among teaching hospitals, Kettering has been ranked among America's top 15, and a national insurance company recently announced Kettering's heart program was the best in Ohio.

But we are just beginning. Heart disease remains the most common cause of death in America for both women and men. Kettering continues to sprint ahead in the introduction of the newest techniques to treat heart and stroke patients and in developing community programs that foster disease prevention and wellness.

Thank you for being an important part of the Heart to Heart story - a truly remarkable journey headed toward even better patient outcomes as we pursue our mission: to improve the quality of life for the people in the communities we serve.
